Dr. Mark B. Dignan is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Director of the Prevention Research Center at the University of Kentucky. He received his Ph.D. in Public Health Education from the University of Tennessee and an M.P.H. in Biostatistics from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Dignan's research has focused on cancer prevention and control for most of his career, with an extensive emphasis on cancer health disparities.
Dr. Dignan's research has addressed cervical cancer screening among low-income and minority populations, including urban African-American women and rural Native American and Caucasian women. His work has included projects that developed and evaluated mass media programs, lay health advisor and navigator interventions for patients and the public, and health care provider programs designed to increase screening and adherence to follow-up recommendations among medically underserved rural and minority populations.
