Diversity Training Programs
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) recognizes the need to promote diversity in the cancer research workforce. The Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD), through its Diversity Training Branch (DTB), leads NCI’s efforts in the training of students and investigators from diverse populations who will be part of the next generation of competitive researchers in cancer and cancer health disparities research.
CRCHD supports a number of training programs to increase the number of underrepresented individuals, individuals with disabilities, and socio-economically disadvantaged scientists conducting competitive cancer research. These programs include our flagship diversity training program, the Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) program. CURE provides a continuum of competitive training and career development opportunities for promising students, researchers from the Minority Institution/Cancer Center Partnership (MI/CCP) program, and junior investigators from diverse backgrounds.
CRCHD also supports training opportunities for students, researchers, and faculty through its other research initiatives, such as the Minority Institution/Cancer Center Partnership (MI/CCP) program, the Community Networks Program (CNP), and the Patient Navigation Research Program (PNRP).
The Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) is a philosophy of training and career development aimed at increasing the diversity of the cancer research workforce.
