• NCI Director's Plan to Move Research Forward

  At the AACR meeting, NCI Director John E. Niederhuber, M.D. detailed a plan to move cancer research forward in this new economic environment. He announced major details, such as funding more grants, development of a platform for personalized cancer care, and an accelerated cancer genetics program, that will move cancer research forward.

• MI/CCP U54 Research Selected by AACR as Newsworthy

  Drs. Yong Cui and Alecia M. Fair, Meharry Medical College/Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center U54 investigators, presented their research titled, Distribution of Breast Cancer Rrisk Factors Among Caucasian-American and African-American Women in a well attended poster session.

  Program Director in the Diversity Training Branch, Dr. Anil Wali, presented a poster titled, Gene Expression Pattern and Clinical Significance of Cathepsin B in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma.

• Dr. Otis W. Brawley Received Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship Award

  This annual AACR award recognizes an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of minority investigators in cancer research.

• Selected Annual Meeting Talks are Available FREE

  More than 90 hours of AACR meeting talks are available as free webcasts. They include audio and, if available, slides from the talks.

2009 MICR Awards Dinner

• Honoring MSI faculty and Minority Scholars.

  
  • This year, MICR Chair Dr. Sanya Springfield, greeted and presented awards to 49 2009 MICR Scholars.
  • One of our former CURE trainees, Dr. Manuel L. Penichet, also presented a lively account of his research and training experiences. He was honored for his leadership efforts to eliminate cancer health disparities and promote biomedical cancer research.
  • Two 2009 AACR Minority Scholars In Cancer Research awardees presented minisymposiums.
