Dr. Peter C. Raich is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with 25 years of experience in cancer patient care and clinical investigation. He has been closely affiliated with cancer clinical trial cooperative groups and presently serves as Chair of the Cancer Control Committee for the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP). He is also Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Comprehensive Cancer Center and staff physician at the Denver Health Medical Center for the City and County of Denver. Since 1993, Dr. Raich has also served as a Senior Scientist at the Center for Behavioral and Community Science at the AMC Cancer Research Center in Denver.
He has recently been appointed to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Task Force on Health Disparities & Workforce Diversity. With NCI funding, he is presently evaluating a low-literacy, interactive, culturally sensitive modification of the consent document for the SELECT prostate cancer prevention trial and has developed decision support instruments for hormone replacement therapy and prostate cancer screening.
Dr. Raich received his M.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1964 and has published over 100 papers, abstracts, and book chapters. Specific research interests include informed consent, increased minority participation for cancer clinical trials, and decision support for cancer patients.
