Moffitt Cancer Center Patient Navigator Program
H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute
Hispanic/Latino, African American, and Migrant Farm Worker
The Moffitt Cancer Center Patient Navigator Program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute will utilize a partnership between the Tampa General Hospital, the Tampa and Suncoast Community Health Centers, the American Cancer Society, and the HealthChoice Network to implement a breast and colorectal patient navigator intervention. Navigation will be provided by lay navigators in seven community centers/clinics located within the Hillsborough County of Tampa Bay, Florida. Centers/clinics will be randomized by study site location; four centers/clinics will receive the patient navigation intervention and three will receive the intervention but delayed. All racial groups will be recruited, in addition to migrant farm workers who reside in the rural areas of the region.
To reduce mortality and suffering from cancer among racial/ethnic minorities and other underserved populations by 2015, this study aims to conduct a comprehensive intervention and evaluation of patient navigation on quality of cancer care, patient satisfaction and quality of life, and cost-effectiveness.
