Dr Beck is the Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Fox Chase Cancer Center. In these roles, he has responsibility for academic programs, corporate alliances, information technology, quantitative sciences and strategic planning. From 2001 to 2007 he was Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Fox Chase, having also served as deputy director of the Population Science Division. He has also held positions in blood banking, clinical pathology, biomedical informatics and information technology at Dartmouth Medical School, Oregon Health Sciences University, and Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Beck’s research interests are in technology assessment, cost-effectiveness of cancer therapies, and the organization of biomedical informatics services and general academic resources. As Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Beck serves as Principal Investigator of the Lincoln University – Fox Chase Partnership in Cancer Research and Training. Dr. Beck has been interested in treatment variations and health outcomes for many years, and has more recently focused this interest on cancer health disparities. He has been PI of the Minority Institution/Cancer Center Partnership project since its awarding in September, 2008.

Dr. J. Robert Beck completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College. After medical school at Johns Hopkins University and a pathology residency, he completed a fellowship in Clinical Decision Making at the Tufts-New England Medical Center.
