Dr. Alonso Gutiérrez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology within the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA). He also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences within UTHSCSA. Dr. Gutiérrez works as a radiation oncology physicist in the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, and is the Educational Director for the School of Medical Dosimetry. He is currently eligible for board certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in therapeutic radiological physics, and is licensed to practice in the state of Texas. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including AAPM, ASTRO, ABS, and RSNA. He has presented at numerous national meetings, and also serves as a reviewer for the journals of Medical Physics and Physics in Medicine and Biology.

Dr. Gutiérrez’s clinical and research interests include radiological modeling of radiotherapy response, intra- and extra-cranial stereotactic radiotherapy, and image guided intensity modulated radiotherapy. Dr. Gutiérrez’s current project, Increasing Minority Representation in Radiation Oncology, is funded through a Project Grant 5 P20 from the NIH. He is also working on a project from a Grant by the Morrison Trust, Dosimetric Verification of a Novel Whole Brain Radiotherapy with Hippocampal Avoidance Technique using Helical Tomotherapy.

Dr. Gutiérrez received his baccalaureate degree in physics and mechanical engineering from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and his master's and doctorate degrees from the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
