Dr. Elizabeth Klonoff is a professor of Psychology at San Diego State University (SDSU) and Professor of Psychiatry at University of California San Diego. She serves as the SDSU Co-Director of the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. Her research has gained her Fellow status in the American Psychological Association in Division 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues) among others. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology, as well as having published a number of books related to topics of health and ethnicity.
While at CSUSB, she conducted numerous research projects on tobacco control, sexism, racism, and physical and mental health. Currently, her work in tobacco control focuses on the impact of discrimination and acculturation on health, minors’ access to tobacco, and tobacco-related policy interventions. She has published widely on culture and gender diversity in clinical psychology, behavioral medicine, and preventive medicine.
Dr. Klonoff received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Oregon. At Duke University School of Medicine she was an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She then went to Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, serving as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology. Here, she founded and then served as the Director of the Behavior Therapy/Behavioral Medicine Clinic and Co-Director of the Chronic Pain Unit at University Hospitals of Cleveland. In 1988, she joined the faculty at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) as Professor of Psychology and Executive Director of the Behavioral Health Institute.
